Do you remember these lines???? Yes, these lines are from the famous cartoon series Captain Planet. The cartoon released earlier in this century and took the world by storm by its amazing youths and the Green Mother as the custodian of earth’s environment. The five youth girls and guys receive five rings, each with the power of one of the earth’s five element, the fire, the wind, the water, the sky and the earth. When these youth combine all these energies of the elements together, Captain Planet comes into being. He’s the savior of the earth and its environment. He’s the ultimate hero in the list of fighters and is the one who’s most considerate about the earth’s resources more than batman and superman.

The story unwinds each day with one or the other problem in different parts of the world which are harming the earth’s environment. Like the ozone hole, or the leakage of the nuclear reactor, the UV radiations in Australia or the traffic jams creating a lot of pollution in America. He’s the one who comes into force when it comes to the Green mother. The hardships faced by the youths because of different people and their illiteracy towards the environment are very visual to the real picture of the world today. The different issues taken up by the writers of the series are very serious and very educational too. The cartoon creates awareness among the different age groups of children as the earth this age group in largest number.

The youth of today’s world is the best cure for our world’s vows. They are the ones who’ll take the legacy of sustainable development and a healthy environment (if we give them!) to the future. They are the ones who’ll be following our footsteps and the footsteps of the future time. If we do not stop the destruction of earth now, how will they stop it? If we do not create awareness in their world now, how will they understand this environmental world? We need to work more on programs like this which create a world of bravery and responsibility in the early stages of a child’s world so that when they grow up they are well sensitized about the detrimental conditions of earth and work hard to conserve it and save it.

Captain Planet. Please come back. We all need you in this time of the hour. When the earth is in its most critical condition, just hanging from a thread between life and death. We need to call him from our inside so that the five elements, of which we are made of, come alive and together we make a Captain who’s able to stop the world from sinking into the dark cloud of pollution and death.
